RESONANT CURRENTS | collaboration performance wear with Iwalani Kaluhiokalani.
Announcing New Series & Performance on December 19, 2024 at Kingston Gallery, Boston, MA - RSVP to the free event here.
I’ve designed garments with Iwalani Kaluhiokalani’s multimedia paintings that were fist activated during the opening performance for WAI Water Warning: Tabi Tabi Po (May I Pass) on the Rose Kennedy Greenway on July 26, 2024.
RESONANT CURRENTS is a multimedia performance by Lani Asunción and Iwalani Kaluhiokalani that explores water as both a physical and symbolic force, blending sound, video, performance, and wearable art to illuminate unseen connections. Iwalani Kaluhiokalani and Lani Asunción recently worked together in ‘Tabi Tabi Po’ (May I Pass) a performance part of SONG/ LAND/ SEA: WAI Water Warnings, a public art installation by Asunción on the Rose Kennedy Greenway on view through Summer 2025.
Inspired by bathymetric charts, the flow of underwater ecosystems, and the human body’s fluid dynamics, the artists create an immersive experience that bridges self and environment. Through restorative soundscapes, video projections, and costuming as a living bridge, the performance celebrates water’s depth as a force of nature and metaphor, inviting audiences to engage with the unseen currents and histories that bind us in an age of climate change. Join this multi-sensory journey.
Resonant Currents is presented in conjunction with Iwalani Kaluhiokalani: Mer Sea on view December 4–29, 2024 at Kingston Gallery.
